Social features explained

At miMove we are using tech in ways never done before to support your goal of encouraging your students to value and engage with sport and physical activity. As we all know, many people take part in sport and physical activity because it's a great way to connect with other people, form friendships and share experiences. miMove draws upon some of the features of social media to support this goal and make physical activity a normal yet exciting part of life at your school.

Safety first
We cannot emphasise enough that your students' safety is our primary concern. To ensure that the social features are never used to cause harm or distress, we have built in a number of controls:

1. Students can only connect with students in your school.

2. Discoverability
The school decides how many students each young person can view or discover on the app. The options are one from the following:

  • Just students in their class
  • Just students in their year group or grade
  • All students in the school

Plus

  • Students in specified groups. (reminder - students can be in an unlimited number of groups. These are commonly clubs and squads but they could also include targeted cohorts e.g. by gender.)

There are strict controls on this feature and the settings can only be accessed by the named lead teacher.

3. Students have control over what they want others to see via Settings. They can decide if they wish to be known by another name and if they wish to hide the name of the activities they take part in.

They will only see others as they wish to be seen, for example, if they do not wish to share their profile picture, they will not see anyone else's.

If they prefer to remain entirely invisible, they can answer NO to the first question:  'Do you wish to be discoverable?' If they select this option, they will not benefit from being connected or be able to receive any social points (see below).

miFriends

When they click on the social icon, they'll see the greyed out profiles of the other discoverable students. If they click on the ADD button, they'll be added to their group of friends. We refer to this as the miFriends list.

When they click the Activity Feed, they will see the most recent activities of their friends. They can send them an emoji to say well done for their effort or celebrate their accomplishment. Every time someone appreciates a post the number by the 'thumbs up' icon goes up.

Please note we are aware of the sensitivity involved in social connectivity so we have designed the feature so that:

  • Students do not get sent friend requests, therefore, they do not have the option to decline miFriends.
  • Students are not able to message/free write or send photos/videos to friends on miMove.
  • The list of miFriends is only visible to the account holder.

Tagging

We have introduced a new question that appears when they post an activity: 'Who did you do the activity with?'. If they enter the names of their friends, a notification will be sent to these students. Student can opt out of receiving these by using the mute option.

They will see a menu bar with options. In Tagged they will see all the times they have been tagged by a friend. When someone tags them, they will have two options: Add to my activity or Already recorded. If they have not recorded the activity yet in miMove, the 'Add to my activity' option will do it for them. They will then have the chance to add a reflection. If they have already recorded the activity, they choose 'Already recorded'.

Social points (SPs)

They can collect SPs by using the social features

  • Add a miFriend = 1 SP
  • Send an emoji/ celebrate a post = 1 SP
  • Tagging = 5 miPoints for the first person then 1 miPoint for other people with a maximum of 10 miPoints. They can only tag miFriends
  • Respond to being tagged = 1 point for choosing either option (plus usual points given for the reflection and activity points given for recording the activity)
