Focus Area: Move to Black
Using the miMove badges to generate excitement and motivate students
Purpose
To support students to develop consistent, well-rounded engagement with enrichment, physical activity and personal development by progressing through miMove’s six badges towards the Black badge.
Move to Black is about habit, balance and persistence, not being the “best” or the most active. It encourages students to build positive behaviours across multiple areas of school life over time.
Who it’s for
-
-
All students, across all year groups
-
Adaptable for:
-
Students new to enrichment or physical activity
-
Less confident or less active students
-
High-engagement students who benefit from long-term goals
-
Students who need structure and clear milestones
-
Progress is individual. Students are not competing against each other - they are progressing from where they are. -
Suggested duration
8–12 weeks
(Progressing through badge colours becomes more challenging over time, so this focus works best as a longer-term journey.)
What success looks like
-
-
An increase in students progressing through badge levels over time
-
Students engaging across multiple badge areas, not just one
-
Improved consistency rather than short bursts of activity
-
Students talking about what they are doing and why it matters
-
Staff seeing clearer patterns of engagement, effort and growth
Success is defined by progression and balance, not speed.
-
How miMove supports it
miMove’s six badges provide a clear, motivating structure:
-
Activity – taking part in physical or enrichment activity
-
Reflections – thinking about learning, effort or experience (see the Reflection Focus Area)
-
Social Connectivity – engaging with others and building belonging
-
Commitment – showing up consistently over time
-
Trying Something New – stepping outside comfort zones
-
Active Out of School – building habits beyond the school day
-
Badge colours progress from White through to Black, inspired by martial arts belts

-
Each colour represents increased consistency and challenge
-
Students can see their own journey visually, building motivation
-
Staff can monitor:
-
Which badges students engage with most
-
Where progression stalls
-
Differences between cohorts or groups
-
miMove turns abstract concepts like commitment and resilience into visible, trackable behaviours.
