Focus Area: Inter Class* Competition
Using 'team' competition to enhance levels of activity
Purpose
Raising levels of activity amongst students by utilising group-based motivation.
This is frequently used to launch miMove.
Who it is for
All students
*Some schools will use other groupings, such as Houses.
Suggested duration
4-6 weeks
What success looks like
- High level participation reflected in high miMove usage.
- Build excitement by publishing a weekly class leaderboard / league table.
How miMove supports it
Decide which criteria you will use and communicate these to students (and parents if appropriate)
- Number of active minutes
- Number of activities recorded
Make it more challenging...only count activities with a reflection or photo or video.
Offer bonus points if every student in the class or house records activity in a given week.
Make it more inclusive ... recognise that some students have far more challenges than others by using a x1.5 multiplier to boost their minutes.
If your school runs a combined competition over the course of a year whereby classes or houses collect points for each event/competition to see the overall winner, think about using miMove data as another contributing competition. This tends to shift the emphasis as it a great way to genuinely value everybody's contribution.
Evidence you’ll have at the end
- Weekly activity increases by class
- Students or classes that require additional support
- A clear picture of where students are active e.g. in or out of school
- A break down of activity by inclusion - SEND, pupil premium, Gender and Ethnicity or combination
