Encouraging students to engage with their miMove accounts
Top tips from schools that have high traction
Every school is different, so there’s no single “right” way to embed miMove into daily life. The ideas below have all been shared by schools that are getting the most value from miMove—use them as inspiration to design a system that works in your own setting.
Key Variables
Two factors make the biggest difference when planning your approach:
-
Primary vs. Secondary: Younger pupils usually need more structured prompts, while older students can take greater ownership.
-
Device Access: Engagement looks different in schools where students have access to their own devices compared with those where phones or tablets are restricted.
What Works Well in Different Settings
1. When Students Have Their Own Devices (often secondary)
-
Allocated Time in Pastoral Sessions
Many schools run a “miMove Monday” where students take 5–10 minutes in registration or pastoral time to log their weekend activity. Once students have an allocated slot, we often see them logging more independently at other times too.
2. When Devices Are Limited or Not Allowed in Class
-
Link with Other Online Tools (popular in primary)
Some schools ask pupils to open miMove before or after using another online platform, such as TT Rock Stars. -
End-of-Activity “Exit Pass”
In schools where phones are returned before enrichment or extra-curricular activities, students use the final few minutes of the session to log that activity on miMove. Teachers often treat the completed post as an “exit pass.”
3. Student-Led Logging
-
Independent Use
Some schools simply encourage students to log their activities in their own time. This works best if:-
A staff member checks usage weekly.
-
The data is made visible—through celebrations, inter-form/house competitions, or by identifying and supporting the least engaged students.
-
Making It Stick
The most successful schools make miMove part of a predictable routine. Whether that’s Monday registration, the end of enrichment, or linked to another digital platform, the key is to keep it simple, visible, and consistent.
